Commercial Attache US Embassy
Joshua Burke is Commercial Attaché serving in the US Embassy in Bucharest, Romania where he tirelessly works to advance American business while strengthening the strategic partnership with Romania. He is responsible for commercial diplomacy, advocacy, team leadership, business development, data analytics, etc.
Prior to serving in Bucharest, Josh worked in on commercial and trade policy issues in Ankara, Turkey. His first assignment in the Commercial Service was in Saint Louis where he worked directly with business owners and CEOs developing international marketing strategies.
Before joining the Foreign Commercial Service, Joshua worked in the management consulting industry, most recently in Accenture’s Strategy & Operations practice. He has worked with Fortune 100 companies on mission critical projects related to Operational Excellence, Process Improvement, Market Strategy and Metric Development. Josh continues to leverage this experience by developing systematic, data driven analyses and frameworks to guide Internal Operations, Client Services and Commercial & Trade Policy.
Josh first experienced life overseas while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Romania (2002-2004) where he worked with local government and businesses on economic development issues. After completing his service, Josh launched his own consulting business in Bucharest, and continues to carry an entrepreneurial spirit to his assignments.
Additionally, while earning his MBA at the University of Notre Dame, Josh studied finance and economics in Santiago, Chile. He also earned a Mastering Trade Policy certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Josh holds Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Global Business Professional certifications. He speaks Romanian and Turkish and is proficient in Spanish.
He has advised numerous startups, has invested in one app and co-founded a social enterprise to empower Syrian refugees. Josh and his wife Anca have been married for 11 years and have two daughters Alexandra & Gabriela.
